Toys, toys and more toys! They are everywhere and they get out of control fast. It could be just 10 minutes after you have thoroughly tidied the playroom and you kids could have easily created mass chaos again. How do you make it easy on yourself and maintain order in your toy storage? Less toys and more playroom storage is the answer. It's hard when you have little ones to phase out old toys as you bring in new ones, but you have to do it. You also have the eliminate toy duplications and you should get rid of any toys that are broken, damaged or otherwise unusable. Limiting the number of toys you have makes it easier to keep them organized. In reality, children favor a few toys out of the many, so keep the few, and give the many to needy kids!
Have you ever taken your toddlers to a friends house to play and they enthusiastically play with the toys for hours without even once saying "mom, will you play with me? Can you help me with this? I don't have anything to do." Yet at home with your equally mind tickling toys, they're bored and miserable? A trick we have at home is to keep all toys in a storage closet and every Monday I select five or six toys to play with for the week. On Sunday, the kids help me put the toys away in the closet. Then on Monday morning I bring out a fresh batch of toys. They stay interested in all their toys like they're brand new!
I wish to give some of the toys away, but my child gets interested with whatever is being taken away. I took away one broken toy and she starts crying whenever she remembers it(so often)
I find Tracy's suggestion much more practical
I try to store away toys in tubs in closets and switch them out every once in awhile. I also find that if I move toys and their containers (toy box or toy bins)in different areas or rooms, they suddenly create new interest. It is still important to go through and get rid of toys once in awhile as well. I have sold them to consignment shops and used the money to purchase more storage containers and shelving!
